Laura Kennedy

"When I see new strip malls and subdivisions in Virginia's Piedmont, I remember the refrain to the song Big Yellow Taxi: Don't it always seem to go, That you don't know what you've got till it's gone. They paved Paradise and put up a parking lot. I first heard Joni Mitchell sing this in 1970, and I’m still fighting sprawl.

Laura Kennedy joined PEC's Development Office in September 2007. Her responsibilities include researching potential funding sources, writing grant proposals, and fulfilling reporting requirements. She also contributes to PEC's public outreach activities in Culpeper County, where she has lived since 2002.

Laura has more than 20 years of experience in enhancing fundraising and communication efforts at nonprofit organizations, with emphasis on health and environmental issues. She has worked for the National Wildlife Federation, American Association for the Advancement of Science, Smithsonian Institution, AARP, and Association for Tropical Biology and Conservation. Laura has a B.S. in Environmental Science from Cornell University.

In her spare time, Laura has been an active volunteer with the Humane Society of Culpeper, and she is president and co-founder of the Culpeper Area Mountain Biking Organization.
